Masks

Oven-bake polymer clay is soft, and unsupported masks will not hold their shape. A U-shaped metal form holds the mask when it is being crafted and modeled and then when baked in an oven to ensure that it will curve around the face when worn. This form is made from an inexpensive roll of roof-flashing aluminum and secured with strips of bent aluminum. A triangle of aluminum is cut with metal shears and bent to shape the nosepiece. Very thick solid clay pieces, such as large spheres, will likely crack; therefore, large shapes on the masks are made with crumpled aluminum foil core and covered with a thin layer of clay. Baking clay on the form solidifies the mask into a strong and permanent shape.
